Setting up your email account in other applications

The following are instructions on how to configure other e-mail applications with your sdgeocachers.org email account. If you are using an application other than Outlook Express, Netscape, or Webmail, the following basic information should help you configure your e-mail:

* E-mail Address = username@sdgeocachers.org (for example, if your username    is easyrider, you would enter easyrider@sdgeocachers.org).
* Reply to Address = username@sdgeocachers.org or another address
* Mail Server user name = username or username@sdgeocachers.org
* Incoming Mail Server (POP3 Mail Server) = vermette.net
* Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP Mail Server) = vermette.net (see note)

======Finishing the Setup of Your E-mail================

Before you start to use your new e-mail account, complete the following steps:

1. Before you try to send mail from your account, check for new mail in your mailbox. If you try to send mail before you have checked for new mail, an error will come up when you try to send the message. This step is only necessary after you have set up your e-mail account for the first time OR if you have changed Internet connections.

2. Set up your e-mail program to delete e-mail from the server after you have downloaded it to your computer. You do not want to leave the e-mail on the mail server because if you do, your e-mail box will overfill on the server and cause your mailbox to work improperly.

========Note about outgoing mail servers ==================

Some ISPs require that all outgoing mail pass through their own servers. To accomodate this policy, enter the name of your ISP's outgoing mailserver in Step 11. For example, Cox High Speed Internet users in California should enter "smtp.west.cox.net". The use of Cox's outgoing servers does not have any effect on your mail.
